In summer semester 2017 the International Office of Harz University of Applied Sciences welcomed a cute group of 7 new incoming exchange students. They started their journey at 6 different partner universities in Finland, France, Ireland, Poland, Russia and United Kingdom. All of the 7 have arrived safely by bus, car or train during the pick-up days.
Prior to every semester the International Office of the Harz University of Applied Sciences organizes Orientation Days. Between the 10th and the 15th of March 2017, the Incomings got a tour around the campus, opened an account German bank account and signed their rental contract. Furthermore they wrote a German placement test to find their language course with the right level of German for the next semester. Additionally it was explained to them how to register for the sports courses and how to use the internal computer system of Harz University of Applied Sciences. Last but not least the timetables were handed out and wildly discussed.
The fun part of the Orientation Days is always organized by the student association “Interforum”. In the afternoons the new exchange students had the opportunity to get to know each other better at barbecues, pub crawls, parties and excursions in the surroundings.
This semester the International Office recruited 3 buddies from the “old Incomings” for the first time! They already arrived in winter semester 2016/ 17 and spend a whole year at Harz University of Applied Sciences. The buddies helped the new students on their arrival, accompanied them to the different meetings and were a good friend in every situation.
Since Thursday (16.03.2017) and Friday (17.03.2017) all of the students follow the lectures, seminars and tutorials.
The following pictures show some impressions of the first days and the minifair, where everybody had a chance to taste the diversity of the varied producing countries.
"I really like that we got to know university and town before we started everyday life - It was so helpful!"
