The Harz University of Applied Sciences is the only university in Germany that offers the bachelor's degree programme Business Administration / Service Management. Our concept is based on modern learning methods and the demands of the market. The programme qualifies you to start a career in management at national and international service companies. By joining the programme you are choosing an industry of the future: in modern economies the service sector is the biggest economic motor.

You will often be confronted with this challenge. In simulations, case studies and practical projects you will learn to apply your business knowledge in such a way that you can directly enter your later career. Our graduates are characterised by their specialist knowledge and competence in leading discussions, conflict management, project management, moderation, producing texts, giving presentations, working in teams, foreign languages and computing abilities.  

Your degree programme – your way into companies

Right from the start of your studies you will be in contact – directly or indirectly – with companies. You will carry out simulations and consultancy projects for external organisations. In our lecture series you will meet experts from various service sectors. You will complete two work placements in nationally or internationally active companies.

Modules

1st – 3rd SEMESTER

Contents:

Investment and Financing, Managerial Accounting, Marketing, Company Management, Taxation and Balance Sheets, Personnel Management, Market Research, Business English      

Methods of teaching and learning:

Lectures/lecture series, seminars with case studies and simulation exercises, teamwork and training, practical projects. Proof of abilities is achieved through written examinations, presentations and assignments as well as project presentations.  

4th SEMESTER

Work placement or studying abroad:

In the fourth semester of the degree programme you have the chance to broaden the skills that you have obtained so far during a sixteen-week work placement. Instead of a work placement you can study abroad at one of the many partner universities of the Harz University of Applied Sciences within and beyond Europe.  

5th – 6th SEMESTER

Professional field orientation Service Management:

In the fifth and sixth semesters you broaden your service-orientated knowledge of business administration by specialising in selected career areas.

You can choose between:  

Location and Event Management

  • Event Management Planning (e.g. event management, project study)
  • Event Management Tasks (e.g. choice of business location, marketing)
  • Location Marketing (e.g. trade marketing, city management) 

Consulting

  • Consulting Management (e.g. strategic consulting, management of company foundation, simulation exercises)
  • Planning and Organisation (e.g. strategic planning procedures, change management)
  • Personnel Management (e.g. personnel management accounting, the psychological basis of personnel management, building of consulting competence)

Financial Services Management

  • Analysis of Financial Products and Markets
  • Management of Banks and Insurance Companies
  • Investment Decisions and Risk Management     

7th SEMESTER

The seventh semester focuses on a work placement, the bachelor's thesis, and a bachelor's colloquium.
