Get off to a flying start with the "Deutschlandstipendium"

The Deutschlandstipendium of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is intended to help committed and high-achieving students - like you - to succeed in their studies. Since the winter semester 2011/2012, the Deutschlandstipendium started to be available at the Harz University of Applied Sciences. In order to be able to enter the professional world in a goal-oriented and enjoyable way in the future, it is necessary to be able to concentrate on your studies and to master your personal challenges. And this is exactly what the Deutschlandstipendium is intended to encourage. Students from all the three faculties of the Harz University of Applied Sciences who demonstrate special achievements and social commitment are supported. Among other things, the progress of studies (ECTS / study points), above-average commitment or individual social circumstances are taken into account. The scholarship holders are sponsored by companies, associations or private individuals.

Information on the next funding period

The next funding period begins on September 1, 2024. The application period for this starts on March 1 and continues until April 30. Applications can only be submitted online. For more information on all aspects of the Deutschlandstipendium, please visit this page or the BMBF website. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

Basic idea of the Deutschlandstipendium

Curiosity, talent and a sense for responsibility should be encouraged. That is why the Deutschlandstipendium supports committed students in putting all their energy and enthusiasm into their studies and the projects around them. The funding period usually begins with the winter semester on September 1 of every year and lasts for 2 semesters, provided that all requirements allow it. The scholarship holders receive a monthly grant of 300 euros, independent of income, which does not have to be paid back. 150 euros come from one of our sponsors and 150 euros from the federal government. In addition to the financial support, the close contact with the sponsoring companies, associations and private individuals is a great opportunity: the growing professional network, insights into working practice as well as further cooperation and projects can be results from the Deutschlandstipendium.

Requirements for applicants

Applications are open to

  • all students who are enrolled at the Harz University of Applied Sciences and
  • are within the standard period of study
  • all high school graduates and prospective students who will soon begin their studies at the Harz University of Applied Sciences.

Requirements for an application

  • good to very good school or study performance
  • extracurricular or social commitment

Important: The Deutschlandstipendium is independent of income and can be combined with BAföG support (federal education grant). The scholarship is also paid if the scholarship holder is on a subject-related stay abroad. There is no legal entitlement to the scholarship.

Exclusion criteria

Excluded from the Deutschlandstipendium and therefore not eligible for funding are students

  • who receive a double sponsorship, i.e. a receipt of another talent- and performance-oriented sponsorship during the sponsorship period, which amounts to a monthly average of 30 euros or more.
  • who have exceeded the standard period of study.
  • who are taking a dual course of study at the Faculty of Administrativ Sciences (DStipG §1 (2) - in German).

Overview of the application documents

The Harz University of Applied Sciences accepts online applications only. These are submitted via the applicant portal of the BMBF. Only applications that are completed in full and submitted with all required documents by the deadline will be considered. The application process can be interrupted at any time and continued at a later date. A new login is sufficient for this purpose.

In addition to the application, the completed declaration of participation included in the application agreement must be sent by e-mail to the University Communications and Marketing Departement (e-mail: deutschlandstipendium@hs-harz.de).

Application documents

After completing the online application form, application materials can be uploaded. Please be sure to mark the files with your last name as listed below (e.g. CV_Mustermann) so that all documents can be clearly assigned to you.

1st file: Motivation_LastName.pdf (submit signed document).

2nd file: Resume_LastName.pdf (submit signed document).

3rd file: Study_Surname.pdf

  • Certificate of higher education entrance qualification or last certificate before graduation, if the final certificate is not yet available; in case of foreign certificates an officially certified translation transferred to the German system including conversion to the German grading system
  • Degree certificate or transcript of the previously attended university or of the previous course of study (e.g. in the case of a change of university as well as at the beginning of a Master's program)
  • Complete transcript of records (transcript) of previous studies and weighted grade point average (available from the Department of Student Affairs via email from your program administrator)
  • Certificate of enrollment indicating the current semester of study (if already available, otherwise to be submitted after the start of the program).

Important information for Master students: In some cases, the number of standard study semesters on the certificate of enrollment does not match the correct standard study period for you. This is the case if you received 180 ECTS in your Bachelor's program and not - as is usual at the Harz University of Applied Sciences - 210 ECTS. At the Department of Business and Economics, for example, these courses carry the extension "extended". Therefore, check your standard period of study on your matriculation certificate and, if necessary, contact your program coordinator for additional proof.

4. file: Verifications_LastName.pdf.

  • Transcripts and certificates of internships and employment.
  • Certificates of honorary/social commitment, special skills, awards, prizes, stays abroad, etc. such as participation in religious societies, associations or clubs, other knowledge and further commitment

5. file (optional): other_surname.pdf

  • References to special social, family or personal circumstances resulting, for example, from family origin or a migration background, if these are relevant to the application

Information on the selection process

Procedure after receipt of applications

Deutschlandstipendien are awarded within the framework of a program of the BMBF and on the basis of the Scholarship Program Law of the Federal Government as well as the Statutes for the Award of Deutschlandstipendien at the Harz University of Applied Sciences. The University Communications and Marketing receives the applications and checks them for compliance with the formal requirements. Subsequently, all applications, sorted according to the respective departments, are sent to selection committees, whose members have been appointed by the rectorate, for evaluation and assessment. The selection commissions are made up of professors, students and the Equal Opportunity Representative. The commissions examine the applications received and decide on the awarding of the scholarships. The applicants are informed of the results in writing. Selection interviews do not take place.

Selection criteria

The selection criteria of the Harz University of Applied Sciences are based on the official selection criteria of the Scholarship Program Law of the Federal Government (cf. § 2 StipV). This means:

(2) for already enrolled students according to

  • the academic achievements to date, in particular the ECTS points attained or the results of an intermediate examination,
  • the final grade of the previous course of study (for students in a Master's program).

The overall assessment of the applicant's potential also takes into account:

  • special achievements, honors and awards, a previous professional career, and internships,
  • extracurricular or extracurricular involvement such as voluntary work, social, university or political commitment or involvement in religious societies, associations or clubs,
  • special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, caring for own children, especially as a single parent, or close relatives in need of care, working in the family business, gainful employment during studies, family origin or a migration background.
