InterGrad-EGD

Establishment of an international graduate academy on topics related to the European Green Deal (EGD)

2. InterGrad Campus Green IT, 1–3 December 2025, Harz University of Applied Sciences

The InterGrad-EGD project will fund over 20 international doctoral theses at the four universities of Saxony-Anhalt by the end of 2027. All dissertations are related to topics covered by the European Green Deal (EGD). As with a summer school, the campus events bring together all doctoral students involved in the project and their supervisors, who spend the first two days exchanging information on the status of their work in posters and presentations.

All interested students, staff and lecturers are cordially invited to the public part of the Campus on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., which will take place in English in the Audimax in Building 9. The focus will be on Green IT, the main topic of the Campus. In a keynote speech, Anna Zagorski from the Federal Environment Agency will give a detailed introduction to the topic and present projects at the federal level, such as the Blue Angel sustainability seal for software, which was awarded for the first time in the summer of 2025. This will be followed by four specialist presentations from Harz University of Applied Sciences, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, and Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. There will also be a contribution from neuland - Büro für Informatik GmbH, which will examine aspects of green IT in more detail. Online participation in this public part of the Campus is offered via ZOOM at https://hs-harz.zoom.us/my/intergradcampus

The detailed programme provides an overview of the 2nd Campus Event of the InterGrad-EGD project with all its places.

Projekthintergrund

The four universities of applied sciences (HAW) in Saxony-Anhalt have been establishing a joint international graduate academy in the InterGrad-EGD project since 2024. The focus of the doctoral students funded by the project is on the European Green Deal (EGD) with the cross-cutting topics of digitalization, sustainable processes and sustainable society.

The supervisors of the doctoral students are professors from the doctoral centres of the participating universities. At Harz University of Applied Sciences, doctoral theses are assigned to the two doctoral centres IWIT and SGW. Upon acceptance into the InterGrad-EGD, doctoral candidates are assigned a renowned second supervisor, usually from another European country.

The more than 20 InterGrad-EGD doctoral students are supported over a period of three years. Regular skills workshops, excursions and multi-day camps on topics relating to the European Green Deal form the newly developed education programme in the InterGrad-EGD.

The establishment of the International Graduate Academy pursues five key objectives:

  •     Promotion of young academics at all participating universities
  •     Strengthening scientific networking between the HAWs in Saxony-Anhalt
  •     Stronger integration of HAW doctoral students into the European scientific community
  •     Increasing the international publication output of the HAW and
  •     Creation of long-term international research co-operation
