This scholarship aims to support international students facing significant financial and social challenges during their studies. This includes, for example, refugees, students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, and those caring for children or relative

STIBET scholarships are funded by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Foreign Office.

Target group Full-time international degree students of all subject areas
Amount 2.500€ (5 months á 500€)
Nationality Foreign country (no German citizenship!)

Who can apply for this scholarship programme?

Only international students with a foreign university entrance qualification who are enrolled in a degree programme at Harz University of Applied Sciences as full-time students can apply.
Exchange students are not eligable.

What are the requirements and where can I find the application documents?

Applications are open to students with financial challanges facing special circumstances (at least one of the following criteria MUST be met):

  • refugee background
  • a degree of disability of at least 50% or a chronic illness
  • caregiver of a minor child or multiple children in the same household (especially single parents)
  • responsibility for the care of first-degree relatives in Germany

The "fine print"

Selection criteria:
- Financial need
- Extent to which the applicant is disadvantaged
- Impact of the funding on studies
- Overall quality of the application

Recipients are generally allowed to work while receiving the scholarship. The maximum threshold for income from scholarships and employment for students is €1,248.
If you are receiving another scholarship, additional funding is allowed up to the level of a full scholarship (€992 per month). Any amount exceeding this must be deducted from the STIBET scholarship.
If you receive social welfare (e.g. citizen's benefit, accommodation allowance), please consult your caseworker in advance to determine if and how the STIBET scholarship affects your benefits.

There is no legal entitlement to receive the scholarship. Applicants will be informed in writing about the selection outcome. Individual explanations for acceptance or rejection will not be provided.
