Reuse of Furniture and Equipment

Harz University of Applied Sciences periodically phases out equipment (e.g., PCs from computer labs, projectors) and furniture (primarily tables and chairs, sometimes boards/whiteboards). If these items are still in good condition, we would like to offer charitable organizations, schools, associations, and municipalities the opportunity to collect these items themselves.

To facilitate this, we have established an email distribution list to inform you about available used equipment and furniture. Currently, over 40 associations and municipalities are part of the network and benefit from it (as of July 2025). All interested parties, including university projects and departments, can contact us at nachnutzung(at)hs-harz.de if they wish to be included in the distribution list.

Campus Bees

Since May 2017, Harz University of Applied Sciences has sponsored three bee colonies. The owner and caretaker is a local beekeeper who tends to the bees weekly during the season (April to September). The focus is on educational beekeeping, meaning visitors are expressly welcome. Questions can be directly addressed on-site, and those interested can also assist with bee maintenance and honey extraction. The bees are located at the far end of the meadow behind the sports center (Building 15). For the latest information on dates, please call +49 3943 659 823. Campus gold (honey) can be purchased at the Sustainability Office in the Rector’s Villa (Room 6.110): 250 g for €5.

Tree Planting Initiatives

The condition of the forests surrounding Wernigerode vividly demonstrates the negative impacts of climate change, particularly on monocultures. We are concerned about the erosion of this crucial natural resource. The committee offers an annual tree-planting event for all staff and students.

Plantings in the Wernigerode municipal forest:

- December 15, 2020: 550 larches
- November 17, 2021: 815 oaks and 10 sweet chestnuts
- November 24, 2022: approximately 1,100 wych elms and alder trees

Plantings in the Harz National Park:

- November 9, 2023: 1,000 beeches
- November 14, 2024: 600 beeches near Hohne Hof
