For the application to a Master degree programme at Harz University of Applied Sciences different application portals are available.

The following overview shows which portal you must choose for your application. This applies to all applicants, regardless of their nationality or the country of their higher education entrance qualification.

1 What are the admission requirements for a Master's programme?

Proof of an academic university degree

 

To apply for a Master's degree, an academic degree (e.g. Bachelor's degree) from a recognised university abroad is required.

Whether this degree entitles you to study for a Master's degree in Germany is regulated by the Central Office for Foreign Education of  the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Federal States in the Federal Republic of Germany (ZAB).  You yourself can inform about this with the help of the database anabin of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Federal States in the Federal Republic of Germany.


Proof of higher education entrance qualification (HZB)

 

When applying for a Master's programme, proof of a so-called higher education entrance qualification must also be submitted. This means the German Abitur or educational certificates from the home country, which are equivalent to the German Abitur.


Proof of sufficient knowledge of the German language (in programmes with German as language of instruction)

 

German is the language of instruction and examination in most programmes offered by Harz University of Applied Sciences. In order to be able to follow the lectures, varification of sufficient knowledge of the German language is required for the admission for almost all Master programmes at Harz University. If German is not your mother tongue, one of the following language certificates has to be submitted with your application documents :

  •  DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber): at least DSH 2
  •  TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache): at least 14 points, whereby TDN 3 must not be undercut in any  
     skill.
  •  Language Diploma of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs - Level 2
  •  Goethe-Zertifikat: at least C 1
  •  successful completion of the assessment test of a preparatory college
  •  Certificate telc German C1 University
  •  Assessment test: examination part GERMAN

Proof of German language proficiency is not required if you have successfully completed a German-language Bachelor's programme in Germany.


Proof of sufficient knowledge of the English language (in programmes with English as language of instruction)

 

In the Master's programme Technology and Innovation Management, English is the language of instruction and examination. In order to be able to follow the lectures, verification of sufficient knowledge of the English language is required for admission to Harz University of Applied Sciences. Therefore, one of the following English language certificates has to be submitted with your application documents :

  • IELTS International English Language Testing System (minimum 6.0)
  • TOEFL iBT (minimum 90)
  • TOEFL CBT (minimum 230)
  • TOEFL PBT (minimum 580)
  • TOEFL ITP Level 1 (minimum 580)
  • Cambridge FCE First Certificate in English (minimum Grade B)
  • Cambridge IGCSE International General Certificate of Secondary Education - First language English (minimum Grade C), Second language English (minimum Grade C)
  • LCCI London Chamber of Commerce and Industry – EFB English for Business Level 3 (minimum "pass with credit")
  • TOEIC (Listening and Reading Test minimum 860, Speaking Test minimum 165, Writing Test minimum 165)
  • TELC B2 (minimum 240)
  • Pearson Test of English PTE Academic (minimum 55)
  • London Trinity College Integrated Skills in English ISE II Level B2 (minimum "merit")
  • UNICert II (minimum “good”)

Proof of English language proficiency is not required if you have successfully completed an English-language Bachelor's programme. Verification of this must be provided (e.g. confirmation from the university).

Depending on the desired study programme, further requirements specific to the respective study programme have to be fulfilled. Please refer to the particular admission regulations for the Master's programme you are applying for.

2. How, when and where do I apply?

How do I apply?
 

Regardless of their nationality, applicants with a foreign academic degree need to apply via uni-assist e.V. for the desired study programme.

You first need to register in the uni-assist online portal. Then choose the study programme you want to apply for and/or our istitution: "Wernigerode, Hochschule Harz".


When do I apply?
 

The deadline for your application at uni-assist depends on whether you are interested in an admission-free or an admission-restricted Bachelor's programme.
Please note the specific deadlines that apply to you:

winter semester:

15 June (restricted admission programmes)
15 July (admission-free study programmes)

summer semester:

15 December (restricted admission programmes)
15 January (admission-free study programmes)

Please apply as early as possible to enable uni-assist to demand and check missing documents in due time.


Where do I apply?

Since your application can be submitted via uni-assist only, you need to send your application documents to the following address after submitting your online application:

What happens after my application?


Within 4 - 6 weeks after receipt of your documents uni-assist will check both their plausibility and the fulfilment of the admission requirements.

Please note that uni-assist will not check your application until you have completed the online application and uni-assist has received both the application documents by post and the handling fees in due time.

Admission decision by the Harz University of Applied Sciences

If you meet the formal admission requirements, uni-assist will forward your documents to our university.

The examination of professional eligibility and the decision on admission to the Master's programme is carried out by the departmental Admissions Commission of the respective degree programme after the application deadline.


3. Which documents are to be submitted to uni-assist?

  • Application for admission (uni-assist application form)
  • passport photo
  • Curriculum vitae (complete, chronological, signed)
  • Certificate of higher education entrance qualification and its translation (officially certified, upload and by mail to uni-assist)
  • Proof of a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university abroad and its translation (officially certified, upload and by mail to uni-assist)
  • Subject and grade overviews of academic studies and their translation (officially certified, upload and by mail to uni-assist)
  • Proof of knowledge of the German language or proof of knowledge of the English language for an English-language study programme (officially certified, upload and by mail to uni-assist)
  • letter of motivation
  • Documents specific to the course of study (Please refer to the study regulations of the intended course of study for more information)

For nationals from China and Vietnam: Certificate of the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS, original mandatory)

Never submit original certificates, only officially certified copies. Your application documents will remain with uni assist for documentation purposes and will not be returned.
