Recognition of examinations, courses and modules and ECTS credits for credit

Examinations, study courses, modules and ECTS credits are credited in accordance with the provisions of the bachelor's or master’s examination regulations (recognition of study time, courses, examinations, modules and ECTS credits for credit).

The Board of Examiners is responsible for this recognition at the student’s request, in accordance with the examination regulations. The student must submit the documentation required for the crediting process. The responsible specialists from Harz University of Applied Sciences must be consulted before determining equivalence. The International Office may be consulted when determining the equivalence of achievements completed abroad.

Applications for recognition of courses for credit must generally be submitted to the responsible Board of Examiners within three months of enrolment. Exceptions to this rule are only permitted if the learning outcomes have been completed after this deadline (regulations for recognition of learning outcomes for credit on bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes at Harz University of Applied Sciences dated 18/05/2017, section 3(4)).

The application for recognition of examinations for credit can be found in the document centre. This contains further important information. Once the application is approved, please submit it immediately to the Admission and Registrar's Office, before the regular examination deadline.

If using identical examination numbers for examinations completed at Harz University of Applied Sciences, students can contact the Admission and Registrar's Office directly – Ms Sondermann (csondermann@hs-harz.de). Please use the attached form ‘Application for recognition of examinations for credit (where examination numbers are identical only!)’  from the document centre (can also be sent by email). The information required includes your name, your old and new enrolment number, examination numbers, and examination texts for the work to be credited. If necessary, you can obtain a Transcript of Records for your old degree programme from your administrator or info point.

If enrolling back on a degree programme that you have previously studied for at Harz University of Applied Sciences, any previous failed attempts on this course will be included in your records.

Learning outcomes from studies or examinations for which the student has already registered under the examination regulations may not be recognised for credit.

An oral examination in place of the second written examination resit

Only students studying under the applicable bachelor’s examination regulations may apply to sit an oral examination in place of the second written examination resit. This generally covers students who enrolled on their current degree programme in the 2005/06 winter semester or later.

Upon application by the student, an oral examination may be substituted for the second written examination resit. No other applications are permitted.

The oral examination takes the place of the second written examination resit. All provisions of the bachelor’s examination regulations apply. As for the second written examination resit, a grade of ‘sufficient’ or ‘fail’ will be awarded based on the oral examination.

The examination date should preferably be scheduled for no later than the date of the second written examination resit, an earlier examination date is permitted.

Registration for the examination is by application no later than the registration deadline given in the academic calendar (section 4 (3) of the bachelor’s examination regulations).

Example: The student fails the first examination resit in the summer semester. If the application is submitted during the following winter semester before the registration deadline, the date of the oral examination should be scheduled during the winter semester.

The latest submission date for the application is the final day of the registration period during the next summer semester. If registration is not completed by this date, the second written examination resit must be taken (section 13 (4)).

There is no invitation deadline. Invitation is by registered mail to the address registered with the Admission and Registrar's Office.

The application to replace the second written examination resit with an oral examination can be found in the document centre. The completed application should be submitted to the Admission and Registrar's Office.
