I studied Tourism Geography and Economics at the University of Trier and Spatial Planning at the Technical University of Dortmund. I got my Masters Degree in 1998 and was a management and community consultant for several years, personal assistant to the mayor of Bad Dürkheim and research associate at the chair of tourism economics and management at the Dresden University of Technology. In 2004, I completed my PhD in the Department of Traffic and Transport Sciences Friedrich List at Dresden University of Technology. Since 2005 I am Professor of Transport Carrier Management at the Harz University of Applied Sciences, Wernigerode/Germany. From August 2008 to end of 2013 I was head of the tourism department in the competence center of information and communication technologies, tourism and services at the Harz University of Applied Science (with Prof. Dr. Axel Dreyer) and since 2007 a member of the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute (NZTRI) based in Auckland/New Zealand. In 2010 and 2014/15 I was as a visiting professor at the Auckland University of Technology - 2010 with a scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD.
My main research areas include tourism and transport (e.g. airline management, cruise ship management, car rental management, transport concepts for destinations), travel management (e.g. online booking engines) as well as tourist market research and adventure tourism. I have authored more than 100 publications on these subjects, including eighteen books.

Furthermore, I work as a reviewer for publishers and (international) research institutions, e.g. from New Zealand, Austria and Poland.
My main focus in teaching are classes in Management of Transport Carrier (e.g. airline management, management of cruise lines), Travel Management, Online Methods, Research Methods and projects.
