The UN Sustainable Development Goals are always the overarching theme of the Transatlantic Summer School and serve as the foundation for a specific topic chosen by the hosting University.
The Summer School is a collaboration between Harz University of Applied Sciences, Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences, Wayne State University, and Iowa State University and took place for the third time. This year’s host was Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences.
The program offered an international learning experience focused on sustainable development projects in collaboration with industry-leading partners.
From the German Bundesliga to the charging infrastructure for e-cars to global deposit return strategies, from the local implementation of circular economy in the northern Ruhr region to a major sports event such as the Student Olympics: sustainability and its implementation is a concern for stakeholders in all areas that must be addressed.
The students of the International Summer School on Sustainability 2025 worked together with project partners such as Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the recycling expert Tomra, or the organizing committee of the Rhine-Ruhr-Games 2025 in small project groups on concrete tasks from the real everyday life of the project partners.
